Trying to change the alarm code for our home security system. We have a Westinghouse keypad and an ADT monitoring service.

I have not had regular telephone service in years. I want to connect my home security system to a monitoring service. I can’t justify paying the $40/mth just for the use of the monitoring svc. Has anyone used a straight (not VOIP, vonage, etc) internet connection for alarm monitoring?

One thing is for sure and that is that the crime rate isn’t going to drop and in fact it is projected to only get worse. Also, you have the added option of having carbon monoxide sensors in your system as well, that will sound the alarm if this poisonous gas is leaking into your home from your gas heater or from any other source.

I have tried to price a home security system on line but they all want information which I do not want to provide yet. I am looking for a system with 8-10 window sensors and two motion detectors. Can someone tell me the approximate monthly cost and do you recommend the company you are using. Thanks.

I’m in the market for a home security system – I’ve been looking at ADT, Brinks, Monitronics – only guideline here is that it has to be wireless. Are there other options out there? Is there something I could setup myself and not pay a monthly monitoring fee?
