Security alarm?
Trying to change the alarm code for our home security system. We have a Westinghouse keypad and an ADT monitoring service.
Establishing home alarm monitoring without tel line?
I have not had regular telephone service in years. I want to connect my home security system to a monitoring service. I can’t justify paying the $40/mth just for the use of the monitoring svc. Has anyone used a straight (not VOIP, vonage, etc) internet connection for alarm monitoring?
The Keys to Home Security Monitoring in North Carolina
<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>
In the middle of a home security system setup in North Carolina, the question of monitoring services will pop up sooner or later. What is the need for monitoring service and why are police forces recommending them? As in any other part of the security system setup, the pros and cons of monitoring should be carefully considered. For most home security system owners in North Carolina, monitoring services will make sense for many reasons. Here are the five key points to recognize.
1. Someone has to watch the fort. Setting up an alarm system is the first step, but without a company to monitor the signal you are putting the entire responsibility on your own shoulders. How can you be ready to respond to an issue if you go to work every day and are out of the house at other times? Even if someone is usually around your house, thieves will make their move during the time when no one is home. Monitoring services provide you with a twenty-four hour watch program.
2. In case of an emergency, you can send for police silently. There are many nightmarish situations which could occur in the course of a robbery, but none more than you being held up outside your home and then forced to disable the alarm. In this situation, you can use the panic button on your home alarm to notify the monitoring service silently and discreetly that you are in serious trouble. While a thief goes about his business stealing what he will, police will be on the way.
3. You can simplify the maintenance and testing. Having a home alarm without monitoring means you will have to get into the nitty gritty in terms of testing and maintenance. These steps may be difficult for the average homeowner and complications may arise when trying to solve issues with a company that did not manufacture the alarm. If you opt for an alarm with monitoring from the same company, you are going to simplify many of these issues.
4. Many devices can be brought into the monitoring. While you set up your overall home security system, many devices will be involved, from smoke detectors to carbon monoxide and even freeze sensors. Would you feel safer if all of these devices were included in your monitoring package? Instead of worrying about each sensor, they would all be monitored by the same company watching over your burglar alarm.
5. It might add up to a break in insurance costs. One of the easiest ways to see the benefits of a monitoring service is to look at the discounts you would receive in other areas. Many home insurance packages will offer discounts on coverage if you have a security apparatus with monitoring service. It will cancel out much of the cost of the monitoring, making it in essence pay for itself. Once you see what type of protection it offers and the low extra costs, monitoring will seem like a no-brainer.

Feel Secure In Your Home With A Home Security System
We’ve all had our moments of being scared after hearing noises at night. Whether we like to admit it or not, a break-in is one of the scariest scenarios we can imagine when it comes to the home. Maybe it’s Hollywood that has constantly fed us scary movies where that is the very case, or it’s such a fear because the home is the place we feel most secure. Obviously, it’s also the place we keep our most prized possessions, whether they be people or belongings. It’s no wonder why so many Americans have chosen to make the investment in their safety and install a home security system.
For some, a home alarm system sounds like one more monthly bill they have to keep in mind and put money aside for. However, such a system should come along with every home. Although many first consider a home security system as an alarm to protect against burglars, in fact it does much more to keep you and your family safe. Providers offer a variety of packages to keep you secure and insure your safety is accounted for.
The way the most common and efficient systems work is that when the alarm goes off your personal landline is used to contact a monitoring center. Next, the professionally trained emergency responder contacts you and makes sure everything is okay; if not, emergency units are called. That is the most basic scenario. Providers now can offer technology that’s hands-free or goes directly to your cell phone. The keypad acts as an intercom, allowing you to talk directly to a dispatcher. Therefore, if you’re injured or can’t move to pick up the phone, you can still be in contact with an emergency system. There’s also an option now where you can be connected to the provider through your cell phone. If you only have a cell phone (so many people now don’t use landlines) or you live in an area where phone lines can go down easily, this would be the more convenient package.
The home security system business has improved increasingly in the past decades. With the technology mentioned above, whatever the scenario you can be in touch quickly with a professional dispatched who can potentially save your life. However, there are also additional securities in these systems that protect against whatever emergency. Fire and smoke detectors are available with the best of providers, as well as carbon monoxide detectors, water sensors, and freeze sensors if you so choose. The technology available provides the best answer to any home security question.
We’ve all had the irksome suspicion that someone is looking into our home, or that someone is following us home. Now with a home security system you’ll feel secure knowing that a professionally trained monitoring system has your best interest and safety in mind. Even if it is just a feeling (probably spurred by that scary movie you watched last night) you’ll rest assured knowing someone is there to watch over you and your loved ones.

Facts on Home Security Systems
One thing is for sure and that is that the crime rate isn’t going to drop and in fact it is projected to only get worse. One type of crime that has truly been on the increase is property crimes and one new type of property crime to make its debut is the home invasion robbery. Prisons are overcrowded and police departments are overwhelmed, so in more and more communities it is up to each and every home owner to take measures to protect their home, family and property.
Fortunately something that has also been increasing steadily along with the crime rate is the level of technology in home security systems. What started out as a simple system of window and door trip triggers that were connected to an alarm has grown into elaborate security systems that can cover your whole home in an invisible blanket of security that is monitored twenty-four hours a day.
In fact home security has moved out of the home and into the yard with a thirty-five foot perimeter of protection that is monitored by state of the art ultra-sensitive heat and motion detectors that will trigger the system if anyone enters the protection zone. While home security systems still rely heavily on window and door trip mechanisms, that prevent anyone from entering with out setting off the alarm, they also make heavy use of the newer technology that is available in the way of infrared and motion detectors.
Also, new wireless technology makes all of the devices that are incorporated in a modern alarm system far more tamper proof then they have ever been before. This is because with a wireless system there are no wires that can be cut and the batteries that power the individual devices last up to three years and will signal the key-pad when they need replacing.
Alarm systems also now come with a back-up power source in the way of batteries that can power the security system for weeks if need be, due to the power being shut off. One thing that a home security system is designed to do is to give the homeowner peace of mind and to help with this one of the added features of an alarm system is that the owner can actually call the control panel any time to check up on the system and the home.
There are other features that are available with a modern, state of the art home security system as well and that includes such things as fire detection sensors that can detect unusually hot temperatures in a home and call the fire department and wake up the owners simultaneously. For homes in colder climates there is the option of freezing warning sensors, that will tell the system to notify the monitoring station if your home has dangerously low temperatures that can cause pipes to burst. Also, you have the added option of having carbon monoxide sensors in your system as well, that will sound the alarm if this poisonous gas is leaking into your home from your gas heater or from any other source.

brinks or adt security systems?
I have tried to price a home security system on line but they all want information which I do not want to provide yet. I am looking for a system with 8-10 window sensors and two motion detectors. Can someone tell me the approximate monthly cost and do you recommend the company you are using. Thanks.
Home security system – recommendations?
I’m in the market for a home security system – I’ve been looking at ADT, Brinks, Monitronics – only guideline here is that it has to be wireless. Are there other options out there? Is there something I could setup myself and not pay a monthly monitoring fee?
